Pelagic

Pelagic ecosystems consist of the water above the sea floor from 1 - 50m. Flora are represented primarily by macro-algae and micro-algae.

What is the area and extent of pelagic ecosystems in SEQ?

Pelagic ecosystems cover approximately 16 402 km2 of SEQ. The map shows pelagic ecosystems cover most of the SEQ coast ranging from depths of 1 - 50m. This ecosystem covers all deeps and drops that occur but excludes the shallow zones which are captured as other ecosystems (e.g. seagrass, coral reefs).

Dolphins are one of the local residents of Moreton Bay feeding and playing in the pelagic zones.
